Our Studio

Our restoration studio somewhat echoes the atmosphere of a laboratory. The surroundings must be clean and free of clutter to avoid contamination.  Contamination of products or materials could ultimately affect the quality and longevity of a restoration.
The latest European methods and the use of the finest products are common place in our studio.

Something About Us . . . . . . . . .

The Porcelain Clinic was founded under the auspice of Studio 2000, and designed as an upscale Object Art Restoration Studio producing only top quality restoration and conservation services.  The restoration and conservation of ceramics has been a long practiced craft throughout Europe for centuries. Only recently have these methods and products become available to United States restorers.  The skill necessary to implement these advanced methods and to correctly employ the use of these advanced products, requires professional and continued education.  or information on restoration as a career, contact us via email or telephone.

The unique practice of ceramics restoration is defined as a true art form by accomplished restorer and ceramics restoration educator Cynthia D. Geers. Owner and Object Restorer is proficient in both the European and American methods of restoration. Cindy's work reflects the museum principals of complete reversibility, and respect for the integrity and preservation of old ceramics. Cindy's refined skills together with her impeccable craftsmanship echo a true love and appreciation for fine porcelain. Each individual restoration is indeed a masterpiece in and of itself.

Cindy trained at the Wriston Art Center at Lawrence University. Additional studies include The South African Academy of Ceramics Conservation, and Penn University's Museum of Anthropology and Archaeology, the Academy of Restoration, the School of Professional Conservation and Restoration, The Campbell Center for Historic Works,  and workshops in London, England and many classes throughout the United States.
Our restoration studio somewhat echoes the atmosphere of a laboratory. The surroundings must be clean and free of clutter to avoid contamination.  Cross contamination of products or materials could ultimately affect the quality and longevity of a restoration.
Full spectrum lighting is imperative to insure that colors are properly matched, and textures duplicated. Our hospital white cabinets and walls assist in proper light reflection, and add to that “lab like” appearance. Glazed surfaces, albeit glossy, satin or matt, must properly refract the light in order to replicate the existing surface, and these things simply can not be accomplished without the correct conditions.
The latest European methods and the use of the finest products are common place in our studio.
